The TCT gigs were the brainchild of The Who’s Roger Daltrey CBE, patron of Teenage Cancer Trust, who has once again persuaded the best of British talent available across rock, pop and comedy to give up their time to raise money for this unique charity.
Announcing this year’s line-up, Roger Daltrey said: “These shows, now in their eighth year, continue to help Teenage Cancer Trust raise essential funds to build specialist teenage cancer units within the NHS. The UK is a world leader in providing this support for teenagers with cancer and in 2008, the charity will open five new units and will start building work on a further two. This means that many more teenagers with cancer will have access to one of our units and will get the support they need to fight this disease."
Also released today (Monday 10th March) is a DVD featuring previously unreleased footage from the Teenage Cancer Trust gigs. With exclusive performances from The Who, Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller, The Cure, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight, Bloc Party and Judas Priest, the DVD is on sale now for £11.99 from the Teenage Caner Trust website (
http://www.teenagecancertrust.org) and will be on general release and available from all good retailers from 14 April.
Each day in the UK, 6 teenagers will be diagnosed with cancer – that is over 2,000 diagnoses per year. TCT funds specialist teenage units in NHS hospitals, providing an environment where teenagers can get on with being teenagers, a positive environment expected to improve survival rates and ensure a better future for patients and their families.
In 2008, the charity will open 5 new units (in Leeds, Newcastle, Cardiff, Glasgow and Southampton) and will start building work on a further 2 (in Birmingham and Cambridge). More units are needed to ensure every single young person with cancer has access to one. Over the past seven years these shows have directly led to the development of three major Teenage Cancer Trust units across the country as well as much awareness for this neglected group of young people.
Roger Daltrey has worked tirelessly year on year to secure the best line-up. Previous music acts include The Who, Oasis, Coldplay, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, Eric Clapton, The Cure, Madness, The Stereophonics, Keane, Razorlight, Franz Ferdinand, Jools Holland, Tom Jones, Noel Gallagher, Kasabian and Kaiser Chiefs. In addition to music’s biggest stars, TCT shows have played host to the cream of British comedy, including Ricky Gervais, Peter Kay, Little Britain, Steve Coogan, Simon Pegg, Russell Brand and Noel Fielding.
Dr Adrian Whiteson OBE, Chairman of Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “We are indebted to Roger Daltrey CBE for the work he continues to do for Teenage Cancer Trust. It is his determination which has helped TCT to reach many more young people with cancer and to raise awareness of this often-neglected group. As in previous years, funds raised from these shows will go towards creating Teenage Cancer Trust units and related services around the country.”
David Elliott, Chief Executive of the Royal Albert Hall commented, "The Royal Albert Hall is delighted to once again host the Teenage Cancer Trust Concerts. This week is one of the highlights of our programme each year and we are thrilled to see such a fantastic line-up of artists in support of such a worthwhile cause."

Notes to Editors
Teenage Cancer Trust:
Each day in the UK, 6 teenagers will find out they have cancer - that is over 2,000 new diagnoses every year. These young people often get a raw deal, receiving hospital treatment in inappropriate facilities catering for children or the elderly.
Teenage Cancer Trust focuses on the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer by providing specialist teenage units in NHS hospitals. As well as state-of-the-art facilities to keep patients occupied during long stays in hospital, the units provide an environment where teenagers can meet others in a similar situation. Units allow patients to build friendships and mechanisms to cope with their disease without being patronised or ignored and are staffed with professionals able to fully understand and manage the needs of the patients.
To date, TCT has built units in London, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield, Liverpool, Glasgow and Newcastle and would like at least 22 units to ensure every teenager with cancer has access.
In addition to building units, TCT funds a nationwide Education team, teaching young people in schools, colleges and universities about cancer, prevention and healthy living. They also provide a conference for young people with cancer and training for medical professionals.
