UK SUPER GROUPS SWEEP THE BOARD IN SCOTLAND

JLS AND N-DUBZ TAKE HOME 2 MOBO AWARDS EACH

2008 MOBO NEWCOMER, CHIPMUNK, BEATS US SUPERSTARS TO WIN BEST HIP HOP AWARD

STELLAR PERFORMANCES AND A TOUCHING TRIBUTE LEAVE GLASGOW WITH A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

Chart-topping super groups swept the board at this year’s MOBO Awards, in association with Lebara Mobile, held last night at the SECC in Glasgow, Scotland. With all categories voted for by the public on mobo.com, the star studded show saw both JLS and N-Dubz take home 2 MOBO Awards – JLS for Best Newcomer and Best Song, and N-Dubz for the coveted Best UK Act and Best Album awards.

Along with JLS’s 12 month whirlwind rise to fame, another artist showing what a difference a year makes is last year’s Best Newcomer, Chipmunk, who walked away with the Best Hip Hop award. Up against hot international artists such as Eminem, Drake and Kanye West, Chipmunk has clearly been touched by the MOBO Newcomer midas touch and showed Glasgow, and the world, that British urban talent cannot be underestimated.

Hosted by Radio 1’s Reggie Yates and US songstress Keri Hilson in Scotland, this year’s show was a celebration of British talent with outstanding performances from Tinchy Stryder, JLS and N-Dubz and the premier performance of War Child’s collective, Young Soul Rebel’s version of ‘I Got Soul’. War Child was this year’s recipient of the MOBO’s pro-social, BeMOBO Award.

Other stand out performances on the night included a surprise appearance from Taio Cruz, who performed ‘Knocked You Down’ with Keri Hilson, adding a UK flavour to the hit song. Kelly Rowland and David Guetta wowed the crowds with a performance of their number 1 hit ‘When Love Takes Over,’ with a 16-strong local Glasgow dance troup joining them on stage,

Introduced by La Toya Jackson, the moving Michael Jackson tribute, celebrated the King of Pop’s legacy to the music industry with touching performances from brother Jermaine, and Britain’s Got Talent winners, Diversity and runner up, Shaheen Jafargholi.
