“Happy Birthday Sweet Seventy”
Celebrating 70 Years in 2009, Song-writing Legend Neil Sedaka announces first new studio album in 10 years, entitled ‘The Music Of My Life’
Released on Universal Music, June 15th 2009
"This is my best collection of songs in 57 years of songwriting. It might be my last set of pop songs, as I feel I can not top these. I am going full circle and returning to my classical roots." - Neil Sedaka, 1st April 2009
London, 8th April 2009
Neil Sedaka, Grammy ® awarded singer-songwriter and international hit-maker today announces the release of ‘The Music Of My Life’, his first new studio album in 10 years.
The album, written and co-produced by Sedaka himself, is released June 15th on Universal Music coincides with his 10-date UK tour, starting June 22nd. Acknowledged as a musical genius, Neil's undiminished soundscape has remained relevant across decades and genres and his numerous honours include a Grammy (and 5 nominations), a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, inductions into the Hit Parade Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame, BMI Awards and a Brooklyn street name.
Talking about the new album, which was recorded over a two-month period, "I had a great run of creativity. I sat down at the piano and these songs just flowed out of me. This record was written for the people I love; Family, Friends, and to someone who is no longer with us."
"There are three kinds of songwriting. Intellectual, Emotional, and Spiritual. Intellectual songwriting comes from the subconscious. You work out the music that is already in your head. Spiritual songwriting is when you are chosen by a higher power and you are the vessel in which these songs are produced. Emotional songwriting is when you write based on an event or a crisis. The writing is cathartic and allows you to release any stress. This is where these songs came from."
The eleven track long player sees Sedaka at his finest; classic melodies and fine song craft reaffirm the relevance of Sedaka in a period of throwaway pop. The first single to be taken from the album, the salsa driven ‘Do You Remember’, produced by musical maestro David Foster, will be released on June 8th.
As a bonus for UK fans, the album will also be packaged with an extra disc featuring Sedaka’s best known tracks including Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, Laughter In The Rain, Oh! Carol, Solitaire, and of course, Is This The Way (To Amarillo).
The history of Rock N’ Roll would be incomplete without the innumerable contributions of Neil Sedaka. For over fifty years, Neil has written, performed, produced, and inspired countless songs, and his canon of compositions will continue to stand the test of time.
