Biography



Kay Burley has enjoyed a wide-ranging career as a newspaper, radio and television journalist.

The only remaining member of the original Sky News presenter line-up, Kay anchors Afternoon Live with Kay Burley from 1400 - 1700.


Kay has broadcast live from some of the biggest news events, including Hurricane Katrina and the 2004 Asian Tsunami. She has also covered both Iraq wars; the deaths of Diana Princess of Wales, the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret; the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles; the crash of Concorde in Paris; and the fall of the Berlin Wall.



Kay was on-air when the second plane hit the World Trade Centre in New York and her anchoring of the event helped win the channel a BAFTA News Award.

In addition to breaking news events, Kay has interviewed an illustrious array of names from the world of politics, sport and entertainment. Most recently, she spoke exclusively to Gordon Brown about the loss of his daughter and secured the first broadcast interview with Big Brother winner Shilpa Shetty.


In a Sky One exclusive, she interviewed David Beckham’s former PA, Rebecca Loos. She has also presented Sex, Lies and Politics for Sky One. 

Kay has a son named Alexander. She was voted What Satellite TV’s Most Desirable Woman for three consecutive years – Kay was flattered, Alexander embarrassed. 

Prior to joining Sky News, Kay worked with TV-am as well as local radio and television stations. She began her career on a local newspaper in Wigan.
