“Outside has never been just a follower of trends, we've helped create many of them.” - Alan Edwards, CEO.
Outside has evolved into the influential PR Company it is today over many years, along the way accruing extraordinary experience in a wide range of disciplines. That’s part of what makes the company so unique and it’s offering unlike any of its rivals. The company has a legacy and history stretching back to mid 70s, which includes an illustrious roll call of names including Prince, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones and David Bowie. We have worked at the very top of our field consistently for nearly 40 years, and consequently we have unrivalled connections right across the media from the newest journalists to the most established channel owner.
Although best known for music, Outside has operated across all disciplines. Nobody could compete with the company’s music credentials but not everybody knows the company’s extensive track record in sports PR. Former and present clients include David Beckham, Sunderland Football Club, Novak Djokovic, Jenson Button, Kevin Pietersen, Freddie Ljungberg and Lennox Lewis. The same could be said with fashion PR where we have represented Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Belstaff, among others.
The corporate side of our offering is also more extensive than people realise. We have represented Richard Desmond’s interests over a decade and handled all his corporate business including the acquisition of Channel 5. We looked after the PR for Chris Wright around the sale of Chrysalis and also represented Nissan cars as well as Formula One genius Eddie Jordan.
Outside has always worked with international clients like Diddy, Bon Jovi, Usher and along the way have handled and launched events, and developed extensive contacts in every continent. This gives us special insight when it comes to working in the global market place.
The multi media approach has always been the very core our ethos. We have always treated the broken up publicity approach with incredulity. At Outside we treat TV, radio, press and even on-line as different parts of the same function, making us the only genuine fully rounded one stop PR offering in town.
In 1996 Outside developed the first online entertainment social media company with Outside Line, which immediately made a reputation working with Radiohead, Channel 4 and Paul McCartney. We then simultaneously integrated the entire Virgin/EMI radio TV promotion into the company creating a new division in the process.
Today Outside adheres to a PR model that incorporates the exciting and rapidly evolving world of new media, without however underestimating the influence what is now lovingly referred to as the “old media”.
As recent figures over the last couple of years from the US have proven, more new magazines are being opened as opposed to closed. There is no doubt that quality journalism and great magazines have an enormous role to play in the future. Just because somebody invented the airplane it didn’t make the car obsolete. Both forms of travel have their place and so it is with press, TV, Online, radio, blogs, tweets, likes and pins!
New opportunities are abound, and while these are undoubtedly uncertain and challenging times for media, this in effect makes the PR function more important than ever. With the decline of targeted advertising PR is incredibly cost effective, flexible and when done properly is authentic in its voice.
And so we chart our way through the current choppy waters with full confidence that this is the end of the beginning of PR and media, not the beginning of the end.
Outside embraces the future.
